4-Day Uganda-Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Adventure
As you arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be welcomed by your professional guide from Nakra Safaris Uganda. After the greetings and a brief overview of your itinerary, you will be transferred to your hotel in Entebbe or Kampala for your overnight stay.
If time permits, you can enjoy a visit to the Entebbe Botanical Gardens, Uganda Wildlife Education Centre or take a brief stroll along the shores of Lake Victoria.
Overnight: Entebbe or Kampala
After breakfast, your Trip begins with a scenic drive from Entebbe to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, located in southwestern Uganda. The journey will take approximately 8-10 hours, passing through picturesque Ugandan landscapes, rural villages, and expansive tea plantations. The route also offers stunning views of Uganda’s rolling hills and valleys.
On your way, you’ll stop for lunch at a local restaurant and enjoy the vibrant culture and people of Uganda. Upon arrival in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, check into your lodge for the night. The park is renowned for its dense forests and the mountain gorillas that reside there, making it one of Africa’s premier wildlife destinations.
Overnight: Lodge in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
On the morning of day three, you will enjoy an early breakfast before heading to the park headquarters for a gorilla trekking briefing. Here, you will receive important information on trekking guidelines, the dos and don’ts when interacting with gorillas, and the specific family of gorillas that you will track.
You will be assigned to a small group of trekkers (maximum of eight people) and a ranger guide who will lead you into the dense forest. The trek can range from 1 to 8 hours, depending on the location of the gorilla group that day. Along the way, you’ll navigate through steep and sometimes challenging terrain, but the excitement of the trek keeps the energy high.
Once you locate the gorilla family, you will have one hour to observe them from a safe distance. This hour offers a rare and emotional opportunity to watch the gorillas interact with one another, from playful infants to the dominant silverback. The silence of the forest, broken only by the sounds of the gorillas and the rustle of the trees, creates an atmosphere of awe and reverence.
After the gorilla safari, you will return to your lodge to enjoy a hot lunch. The afternoon can be spent relaxing, reflecting on the incredible experience, or taking a gentle walk in the surrounding area or visiting the Batwa community. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is not only home to gorillas but also to a wide variety of bird species, making it a birdwatcher’s paradise.
Overnight: Lodge in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
After an early breakfast, you will depart for Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda, located approximately 4 to 5 hours away by car. This scenic drive will take you through lush, terraced hillsides, with beautiful views of Rwanda’s picturesque countryside. As you approach the border, your guide will handle all the necessary border-crossing formalities, ensuring a smooth transition into Rwanda.
Upon arrival at Volcanoes National Park, you will check into your lodge, which offers panoramic views of the volcanic mountains that make up the park’s unique landscape. If time permits, you can Optionally take a brief walk to explore the surrounding area, or visit the nearby Iby'iwacu Cultural Village, where you can learn about Rwanda’s rich culture and heritage.
Overnight: Lodge near Volcanoes National Park
The final day of your adventure is dedicated to gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park. Similar to Bwindi, you will head to the park headquarters for a briefing from the rangers. Afterward, you will be assigned a group and a specific gorilla family to track. The trek in Volcanoes National Park is often more challenging due to the steep terrain, but it is equally rewarding.
Once you find the gorillas, you will have one hour to watch them interact. The beauty of Rwanda’s volcanic landscape, combined with the thrill of seeing the gorillas up close, will make this an unforgettable experience.
After your gorilla safari, you will return to the lodge for lunch and then start your journey to Kigali, Rwanda’s vibrant capital city. The drive takes approximately 2.5 hours, and upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel for the night. Depending on your arrival time, you may have the opportunity to explore Kigali, or optionally visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial, or shop for souvenirs at one of the local markets.
Overnight: Hotel in Kigali, Rwanda
On the final day of your adventure, you will be transferred to Kigali International Airport for your return flight. Depending on your flight time, you may have a chance to explore a little more of Kigali before your departure.
